Vanity asks the question "Is it popular?"

But, conscience asks the question, "Is it right?"
And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor
popular, but one must take it because one's conscience tells one that is right.

I think Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is trying to say that even though some things might feel safe or the smartest thing to do if it is right then it is right and you must do it because it is the right thing to do. Our conscience tells us when it is time to right.
